Today I completed my first (not)parkrun.
(Not)parkrun is an opportunity for parkrunners to self-submit a 5k walk, jog, or run, on a route of your choosing, wherever you are in the world.
It’s entirely separate to, and different from, parkrun. Participating does not count towards parkrun milestones – it’s a fun alternative to help fill the void whilst parkruns are suspended during lockdown.
Getting back into routine this week, today seemed the right time. I’ve not run 5K since parkruns were suspended across the UK on 18th March. Without the enthusiasm and comradery of the crowd I am easily prone to slowing to a walk or stopping to take a picture or two.
Did you know you Pro:Direct Running are selling an Apricot Parkrun T-shirt which you can personalise, with a limited edition “We’ll get through this together” badge for lockdown?

I’m pleased to hear real parkruns will re-open in England at the end of October. As they’re an organised sport, they’re exempt from the new Rule of Six – where no more than six people can meet indoors or outdoors – which comes into effect Monday. Research has shown the benefits of attending far outweigh the risks. Source: Guardian article and Parkrun blog
Have you completed any (not)parkruns? Will you be returning when parkruns re-open?
