Today Boys 2, 3 and I visited Speke Hall near Liverpool, and Wigg Island just across the Mersey Gateway Bridge at Runcorn.

Speke Hall had a totally opposite feel to Tatton Park. On arrival, a lady spent a couple of minutes welcoming us to the site and explaining what to expect – in Liverpudlian. Much was closed including the house, park, vegetable garden and maze. It was much smaller than Tatton Park, and the one way walking system was just 2km. Families were largely dotted about on tables and the lawns in a calm fashion. We ate our picnic, had a good look around, and then set off for Wigg Island.
When researching things to do, I’d seen images of the Mersey Gateway Bridge, and was keen to have a go. We actually had two gos due to a wrong turn on the way home – costing £2 each way via the MerseyFlow website (instead of toll booths, you can pay in advance or by 11.59pm the day after you cross).
At the other side, we parked up at Wigg Island Community Park (free), and stretched our legs. We saw tame squirrels, ducks, fish and dragonflies, and had great views of the river Mersey in it’s glory. Boy 2 said “it’s much bigger than the River Wear”.
This afternoon I’ve been playing Roblox with the boys – two new games – Scuba Diving at Quill Lake and My Restaurant. Both are highly addictive and surprisingly good fun.
