Today I saw the Joker at the Cinema.
“In Gotham City, mentally-troubled comedian Arthur Fleck is disregarded and mistreated by society. He then embarks on a downward spiral of revolution and bloody crime. This path brings him face-to-face with his alter-ego: “The Joker”.” IMDB.
I wasn’t looking forward to this but found it moving, and give it 8/10. It was tough to watch, in particular when Arthur’s support and medication are cut. With significant reductions in government funding and a growing population, I think instances in the film are likely to increase – sadly.
Joaquin Phoenix played the Joker brilliantly, especially when he was truly able to be himself and danced light-footed down a big flight of steps. The film adds depth to the Batman films, and is well done.
Earlier in the day Boy 2 and I had to be rescued by Dad after the car broke down on the way back from parkrun. We’d got soaked in the rain and the engine wouldn’t turn on so we were freezing. Luckily we were by a petrol station so were able to wait in the warm with hot chocolate and a sausage sandwich, before having a tow to a garage.
Have you seen the Joker? What did you think?
